The Overview 01/24

What comes across from the early space travellers is a privileged sense of belonging. In a crudely material age, they learned that we, and other living things, are part of this Earth, and without it we are nothing.
— John Burnside

As we begin another year and another orbit around the Sun, we at S4H are inspired by the words of Scottish Poet, John Burnside. He spoke of “… a privileged sense of belonging.” That is exactly how we feel as part of the crew of spaceship Earth, “privileged.” We experience this through our Citizen Astronauts and their adventures in space. We experience it even more profoundly when their spaceflight and the LCDI we collaborate with them on, shape their actions in the society around them, fostering a sense of belonging here on Earth.

And, with a burst of activity from spaceflight providers this January, we witness more opportunities than ever to pursue our mission through this new year and keep sending Citizen Astronauts …

Space for Humanity Board of Advisor member, Michael López-Alegría successfully commanded Space-X’s Dragon Capsule to the International Space Station. This mission marks a new era of opportunity for countries to join the international space community and access low-Earth orbit to advance exploration and research in microgravity. We congratulate MLA and his crew!

Virgin Galactic launched its sixth commercial spaceflight, sending four private passengers to suborbital space and back, among them the first Ukrainian woman ever to experience the Overview Effect.

2023 was another exceptional year in our mission to send impact-driven leaders on sponsored journeys to space to experience the Overview Effect. Learn more about it in our annual report. Click the link and have a read.
